Comfortable place and great location (2014-04-23 13:54:54)

We had initially booked the Hellorelaxation condo in Waikiki for one month but liked it so much that we ended up staying for two months. The team at Hellorelaxation, especially their local manager, took pains to make sure our stay was comfortable. Our unit was very nice with 2 double beds and a soft sleeper which allowed our 2 children to each get their own bed. The unit gets excellent trade winds and we did not use the AC even once during a two month stay. Parking is included free with the rent which is nice given the tightness of parking in Waikiki. During our stay, we did see some of the other Hellorelaxation units in the same building, and while the furnishings are different, they are all more or less at the same standard and I would recommend any of them for a nice vacation. Over and above the condo unit, the location itself is great. It is in the Waikiki Banyan building which is at the nice end of Waikiki, near Kapiolani Park and the Zoo. The building has a pool and a jacuzzi and is a very nice and pleasant place to stay at. Ala Wai canal is a block away and is great for jogging and walking. The beach is also just one block away, in the other direction. We rented a surfboard for a month (couple of hundred dollars) and the kids spent time almost every day at Waikiki beach practicing. The beauty of the Waikiki Banyan is that you are on Kuhio Avenue near Kapiolani Park, which means you are right next to the shops and the holiday atmosphere of Kalakaua Avenue but far enough to have a relaxed residential feel as well. The other advantage is that you do not need to keep a rental car for the entire vacation period. We used to take the bus to the Alamo rental near the Airport to pick up a car on the few days when we needed it and return it a day or two later. However, Honolulu has a great bus system and everything, from Safeway to Ala Moana Mall to China Town, Costco etc and even Hanauma Bay for snorkeling is very cheaply and conveniently connected by bus. In short if you go to Oahu, we recommend staying in Waikiki, and in Waikiki, stay in the Waikiki Banyan and go through Hellorelaxation for one of their units in the Waikiki Banyan for a nice vacation.

Poorly maintained property (2015-01-11 15:08:57)

Upon arrival, we found the property to be in disrepair, and also unclean; • A teakettle left on stove with water in it • Food particles left in the kitchen sink • Dirty cabinets with junk in them • No garbage bags provided • No dish soap provided • No dishtowels provided • One soiled sponge left at sink • No drain basket or plugs for the sink drain (no dishwasher, and no way to wash dishes) • The only inside chairs provided were 3 broken (and DANGEROUS) bar stools • One large cooking pot with a lid, however, the glass lid was missing a handle and unusable • Broken, mismatched, stained dishes • Not enough silverware for 6 people • No hot pads One of the reasons families rent condominiums is so that they can prepare some meals while on vacation. We found it difficult without these barest of necessities provided. • The condo was supposed to sleep 6. We found two beds and one small, dirty futon, not the pull-out couch that was listed. We did find an air mattress stuffed in the closet, but it leaked air and required a repair before we could use it. • One broken floor lamp was provided • DVD player listed in description was not present The bathroom was awful: • No toilet paper provided • The only towel bar was broken • Broken exhaust fan • Mildew in the shower • The tub did not drain, leaving a tub full of water after every shower for the next person to stand in • No washcloths provided • One hand towel provided for 6 people for 8 days • 4 towels were left folded on the dresser when we arrived, although accommodations were supposed to be for 6 people • No information provided about trash disposal or laundry services. (Unknown information posted above the sink in a foreign language.) My family was very disappointed in the property. Since I paid a $500.00 cleaning deposit, I assumed the property would be clean for our arrival. This property is the worst cared for property I have ever stayed in. It was quite frustrating that our limited spending money was used to buy cleaners, towels, toilet paper, and materials to repair the air mattress. I felt the need to scour and sanitize all the surfaces in the kitchen before preparing any food, as well as wash all the dishes prior to using them. The amount of money we paid to rent this property should have included at least dish soap and toilet paper and garbage bags! The contract states the property should be left in as good condition as when we checked in. I believe the condo was in better condition because of the cleaning we did once we arrived.
